Why It's a Deal: In comparison, the lowest airfare we found from Los Angeles to Whitehorse in May is $558 (multiple carriers). For an additional $1,100, Maxxim Vacations covers round-trip airfare, eight night's accommodations, a city tour, and several admission passes.

Trip Details: The package includes round-trip airfare on Air Canada, eight nights' accommodations, and an eight-day midsize automatic car rental with unlimited mileage and concession fees (Budget). The first three nights are spent at the Inn on the Lake, about a 35-minute drive from Whitehorse, the capital of Canada's wild Yukon Territory. Highlights include the MacBride Museum, dedicated to the gold rush of 1898, and a picturesque walkway along the Yukon River. A city tour covers landmarks such as the Whitehorse Dam and the Miles Canyon lookout.

Next you'll head further north for a two-night stay at the Aurora Inn in Dawson City, a historic town whose Klondike goldfields will take you back to the times of gold fever. You'll spend the sixth night in The Westmark Inn Beaver Creek, followed by The Raven at Haines Junction, a small village at the edge of Kluane National Park, on night seven. As you cross over into Alaska, you'll drive along a winding road known as the Top of the World Highway, passing storybook towns and lakes amid high mountain peaks. You'll spend the final night of the trip back in Whitehorse. Extend your stay and the rental car for $109 per person per night.

Maxxim Vacations also offers an 11-night package from $2,119, which includes two additional nights in Alaska, one in Haines and one in Skagway. The vibrant, tiny town at the north end of the Inside Passage is surrounded by wilderness and is only four blocks wide and 23 blocks long.
