Trip Details The Santiago and Santa Cruz Wine Tour package includes round-trip airfare on a LAN Airlines carrier and five nights' accommodations divided between Santiago and Santa Cruz.
The tour begins in the Chilean capital, a city of 5 million, where remnants of the past coexist with modern architecture and a metropolitan lifestyle. Your home for the next three nights will be the recently renovated Hotel Galerias in the bustling downtown.
The 162 earth-toned rooms have wide, double-paned windows (to block out the sound from the busy street below) and standard amenities. Guests have access to an outdoor pool, a whirlpool, a sauna, a hair salon, laundry service, a restaurant, and a bar.
The package doesn't include any city tours, so you'll be free to explore on your own. A few attractions to check out: the monuments and Governor's Palace at Plaza de Armas, Central Market, National Museum of History, Parque Metropolitano at San Cristóbal Hill, and La Chascona, the home of writer and native son Pablo Neruda.
While based in Santiago, you'll set out on a day trip to the Maipo Valley, where you'll visit some of the region's many wineries. You'll learn firsthand about the wine-making process; tour vineyards, production plants, and wine cellars; and sample the finished products.
