Inspiration for the characters and scenes in Cather's novels (including O Pioneers! and My Ántonia) came from her childhood in Nebraska. The Cather Foundation offers a tour of seven buildings associated with those years, starting with the house she grew up in. Her bedroom still has the rose-patterned wallpaper that Cather paid for by working at a drugstore. Anna ("Ántonia") Pavelka's house can be spotted a few miles northwest of Red Cloud. 413 N.
